BrightEdge, the innovation and impact investment arm of the American Cancer Society (ACS), aims to define and catalyze scientific, social, and sustainable impact across the continuum of cancer care. Dr. Ryan Margolis of BrightEdge will present research funding opportunities, including proof-of-concept funding for commercial viability. He will also offer tips for how academic researchers can effectively communicate their ideas to private investors like BrightEdge.
After the info session, Dr. Margolis will meet with interested UT PIs for 1:1 consultations upon request. Space is limited, and OVPR will select individuals for 1:1 consults based on availability and fitness for BrightEdge opportunities.Â

Dr. Margolis is a BrightEdge Texas Associate. Through this innovation program, he leads efforts for funding oncology-focused researchers with non-dilutive proof-of-concept grants and direct investments. Ryan is a scientist by training, receiving his PhD from UT Dallas in Biomedical Engineering where his research focused on developing a three-dimensional treatment for solid tumors using focused ultrasound. During his doctoral studies, he was heavily involved in Nucleate in both a national and regional capacity. This experience led him to pursue a postdoctoral fellowship at Vanderbilt Medical Center to assist with commercializing a MR-guided focused ultrasound device for chronic pain prior to joining BrightEdge.
